Plastic laminate incorporating microscopic photography

Alex Schweder created Liquids Ghosts in order to blur the distinction between buildings and the bodies that occupy them. His custom-designed plastic laminate, which consists of decorative surface papers impregnated with melamine resin and pressed over Kraft paper core sheets impregnated with phenolic resin, incorporates photography of colon cells intended for restroom stall applications. The floral pattern of the colon’s microscopic structure simultaneously provides reassurance of conventional architectural patterns and something unsettling.
