Translucent silica aerogel

Manufactured by Cabot Corporation via a patented process, Nanogel is a lightweight, nanoporous material that delivers unsurpassed thermal insulation and light transmission. Composed of nanoporous particles mixed with air, feather-light Nanogel weighs only 90 grams per liter, making it the lightest solid material in the world.

Compared with other insulation materials, Nanogel provides a superior combination of thermal and sound insulation as well as light transmission and diffusion characteristics. These benefits offer new design solutions for architects where both maximum natural daylight levels and energy efficiency are required. Nanogel provides an R-8 insulation value for every inch of thickness, and just half an inch provides 73% light transmission with a solar heat gain coefficient of U = 0.25.
