Recycled-vinyl-billboard bags and accessories
Vinyl billboards are used nationwide as temporary banner advertisements and are usually discarded into landfills, where they leech polluting materials. Upset by this wasteful practice, Nicola Freegard and Robin Janson founded Vy & Elle in 2002 in order to transform this landfill-bound material into durable and vibrant products.
The strength of PVC vinyl makes it an ideal material for reuse, and the different images printed on the vinyl adds to its visual interest as a fabric. The material offers colorful graphics that take urban art into everyday living, and with its random colors and designs, each bag and accessory item Vy & Elle makes is unique. Vy & Elle is also developing wall coverings, furniture, temporary shelter, and tarp applications with the recycled vinyl.
Vy & Elle is currently working with the billboard industry to develop more environmentally sensitive PVC applications as well as the eventual termination of the production of PVC altogether. The company currently recycles 100 percent of their scrap material into garden hosing and flooring.
