Tidal register

As landscape artist Stacy Levy reminds us: “nature does not stop in the city.” Although most urban rivers exhibit tidal changes, which connects us to the ocean, the moon, and to nature’s daily cycle, many urban dwellers are not aware of these transformations. Tide Flowers is an installation that registers tidal movement with the simple visual presence of brilliantly colored flowers “blooming” at high tide and “closing” at low tide. Tide Flowers is made up of multiple flower units, each with six petals, attached to wooden piles. The petals rise with the tide and also respond to the waves and wakes on the surface of the water.
