Atmospheric thickening

Developed by Japanese artist Shinji Ohmaki, Memorial Rebirth is an installation intended to “weave stories with countless bubbles.” The project consists of 50 machines capable of producing 50,000 bubbles per minute, placed in several strategic public locations.

Demonstrating the use of minimal material to maximum perceptual effect, Memorial Rebirth produces a thick atmosphere of bubbles that suddenly appear in an urban space and disappear rapidly. This spectacle is designed to represent the “frequency of vital energy,” and to provide viewers with the sense of being drawn into an “energized” space. Ohmaki states that once viewers experience Memorial Rebirth, “it will appear to the viewers as if everything they see is ephemeral as bubbles.”
