Casula

Italian fashion designer Nanni Strada was invited to design a liturgical robe for Koinè, an International exhibition for church furnishings and religious objects held in Verona, Italy, in April 2005. Strada’s Casula became the search for a shape for lyric expression evoking immaterial qualities by means of industrial textile-manufacturing procedures. In a collaboration with scientists from the Conferenza Episcopale Italiana, she devised a ritual garment consisting of two superimposed layers: the outer white garment is decorated using a laser-cutting process, and the internal garment is laminated in light-reflecting gold, green, red, and purple metallic fabrics.
