Decorative steel screen

Array is a stainless-steel screen inspired by the decorative economy of patterns in Islamic architecture, mathematical sequences, and growth patterns in nature. It is a product of Sydney-based Korban/Flaubert’s focus on the themes of rhythm, sequence, and complexity in design. Array demonstrates the potential for generating complexity from simple rules: a dense, multilayered structure arises from a consistent ring size and spacing. Korban/Flaubert’s use of ultra-thin stainless steel in such a pattern evokes the delicacy of lacework and other woven textiles—a reference to craft intended to generate tension with the industrial origins of the material itself.
